About The Job Share Pair
Hannah and Rachel met over 10 years ago whilst working in the HR department of a large, fast paced, high volume, real estate services firm, meeting as colleagues and becoming firm friends. They progressed up the corporate ladder quickly, achieving the role of HR Director, loving the influence they had at a strategic level to improve business results and impact upon the employee experience.
They had their first babies 6 days apart and whilst on their respective maternity leaves discussed their desire to achieve work life balance with their new family commitments. With their ambition, drive and commitment, they didn't want to leave a career and qualifications they had worked so hard for, or miss the precious "firsts" with their babies. Job sharing seemed a perfect solution!
They broached the idea of a job share with their line manager to each work 3 days per week with one critical cross over day, and after many discussions and much planning they became the first job share duo in the UK arm of that Fortune 500 firm. This gave them the work life balance that they had hoped for, and as a result they felt a duty to shout about the benefits to help others.
As the arrangement was new to them and their business, they began researching best practice, networking with job sharers and other flexible workers and allies and soon realised the rarity of job sharing allowing for a route back into work following maternity leave. They passionately believe that this is a hugely missed opportunity for business and working women the world over.
Their Instagram page @thejobsharepair was born first and foremost to share their experience, best practice, useful practical tips and profile other job sharers to educate and inspire others about the power of job sharing. Currently at over 1,250 followers, Hannah and Rachel post 6 times a week, highlighting case studies, reports and research, as well as personal experiences and those of their network, with an aim to increase awareness of job sharing and the benefits it can bring to individuals, organisations and the community.
Hannah and Rachel are proud and qualified members of the CIPD. Both accomplished HR leaders and Board Members, they are collaborative, communicative and pioneers for continuous positive change.
They are passionate about stamping out flexism at work and making flexible working options accessible for all. Their ambition is for more people to access meaningful, progressive, senior roles through job sharing, encouraging a truly diverse workforce through flexibility.
With over 14 years experience in private sector HR departments, Hannah’s areas of expertise include large-scale people change programmes (including organisational design, restructures, transitions and spearheading the recruitment of new teams), strategic people implementation, talent development (with a focus on management and leadership) and employee engagement and experience. She is a natural mentor, having coached and mentored internal colleagues and charity partners alike, and prides herself on having assisted so many progress within their careers.
Hannah holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management and has been a CIPD member for over 10 years. She began her HR career working for a large fast food franchisee, during a time of rapid growth and change, and her last corporate role was as Senior HR Business Partner (Director) within CBRE – a Board level role, where she led the people strategy and operations for an 800 employee base, leading a team of up to 8 people and had ownership for a number of UK-wide projects. Prior to embarking on a career in HR, Hannah read History at the University of Reading, graduating in 2006.
A doting mum to two girls, Hannah’s 'home days' are often focussed on the great outdoors, crafting or 'circle time'...as well as plenty of 'Frozen' chat. A lover of travel, wine and culinary delights, one of Hannah's favourite experiences to date has been attending a Thai cookery school in Bangkok (which included all three of her favourite things)!
Rachel (a proud Mancunian) read Law at Trinity College, Dublin which first ignited her keen interest in employment law. After graduating she joined the leading global real estate firm, CBRE, initially specialising in client satisfaction projects before working as one of three in the legal team for global corporate accounts. Wanting to align her passion for employment law with her work, she moved to the HR team and studied for her Masters in HR Management, part time, at London South Bank University...She learned a thing or two about organisation and time management!
She worked her way up from entry level HR to HR Director in the space of 6 years, operating as Senior HR Business Partner for businesses with a client group of 500 individuals located across the UK. She is passionate about implementing change to improve efficiency and productivity levels, particularly through the lens of employee engagement and workplace culture. Her passion and drive is to help individuals and organisations realise their potential through overcoming barriers and creating action led, measurable solutions and results.
On her 'home days' she runs around after her two boisterous little boys (dodging trains, cars and dinosaurs under foot) and loves to bake.
Our mission poem
Two great friends and work colleagues
Sought to balance career life with their families.
Returning to work in job share,
They were surprised to find it is all too rare.
They wanted to promote this as a great way
To achieve a work life that allows time to play,
To bring back your “you” after becoming a mum,
They felt there was far more to be done.
@TheJobSharePair was born to share
The opportunities provided as a job share pair
Our mission is to promote and highlight the wins,
To everyone in welcoming job sharers in.
To get mums back to work with their unique set of skills,
We can look after our babies, and pay the bills!
